There are certain people who stand out, not just in a conversation, but in the way they live their lives. How they spend their time, handle challenges, care for themselves, and treat others says a lot about them.
When you chat with them, you rarely go home empty-handed. They provide you with intellectual gold but also make you feel like you can be yourself around them.
What stands out is their demeanor and confidence.
Here are 20 qualities I notice in such people that make them extraordinary:
They never speak badly about themselves. Not even as a joke.
They don't force themselves into conversations. They are more than happy to stay silent and listen.
They don't “have to” talk about themselves. They share their experiences when they have something to contribute, but they have no need to turn every conversation into proof that they are worthy.
They lead focused and disciplined lives. And when they fall out of rhythm, they find their way back.
Their solution to self-doubt is not stagnation but more action.
They are confident in themselves, yet aware that they can improve. That does not take anything away from their self-worth. It's just part of the process.
They have their own lives, interests, and hobbies that they are invested in.
They have a solution mindset. They are problem solvers, not just problem finders.
They ask for help when they need it. It does not make them feel inferior. They know they don't have to figure out everything on their own.
They rarely gossip. Their primary focus is often on self-improvement.
They make you feel seen in a conversation. They pay attention, ask thoughtful questions, and give you room to speak. They make incredible eye contact, even with a stranger, and have a certain class and confidence in every interaction.
They don’t waste their energy trying to explain “their perspective.” They conserve their energy for their own progress. If asked, they share it.
They do not keep investing in places where they aren't valued.
They take care of their bodies. Strength, health, rest, and feeling good in their own skin matter to them. In their own style. In their own way. It doesn't have to cater to the public.
They value their personal relationships. Although they will talk to everyone and make them feel like one of their own, their inner circle is small and tight. Only highly trusted friends and family members get to be in it. They also make it a point to check-in on them, make plans, and show-up.
They love life, even while going through the hard parts. They don't have to enjoy every experience to find moments of joy, connection, or meaning along the way.
They are okay with feeling embarrassed. Singing in a crowd? Sure! Public speaking? They'll give it a try. They might feel awkward, but they are willing to do it anyway.
They are willing to learn and try new skills, just for fun.
They value other people’s time.
They know how to have fun and be free. They make room for laughter, play, and things that have absolutely nothing to do with work or responsibilities.
