A lot is outside our control. But what we consume, how we spend our time, and what we keep saying yes to deserve a closer look.

A lot of things are not under our control right now. But there are certain things that we can definitely work on and improve so that we continue living a higher quality life. Here are my 13 non-negotiables as someone who wants to experience life's depth and live an enriched life:

  1. No alcohol, no smoking, no recreational drugs.

  2. Reduced screen time, especially Netflix and shows/movies that create more anxiety and stress, such as psychological thrillers, murder mysteries, etc.

  3. 95% healthy, balanced, nourishing meals.

  4. Knowing your top 5 values and sticking to them under every circumstance.

  5. Hydration. (I know, something as simple and as ignored as that.)

  6. Having an exercise routine that works for you.

  7. Deep, high-quality relationships, not just adjustments and obligatory relationships.

  8. Reading to know different experiences and perspectives.

  9. Having clear individual goals and a plan to work towards them. Whatever that is for you.

  10. Introspection, self-reflection, and getting feedback from trustworthy friends to work on your blindspots.

  11. Being able to say no and be assertive in protecting your schedule, especially as a woman.

  12. Being okay with being the “bad person” because you said no.

  13. Skill-building

I don’t want to keep wishing for a better life while making choices that leave no room for it. What are your non-negotiables?
